Two girls stay late to fold the chairs after Wednesday night service. The fellowship hall is warm, ordinary, and almost empty — except for the security monitor in the church office, showing the same hall from above.
The Fellowship Hall is the second of three short practice pieces about surfaces that watch back: a livestream monitor, a security screen, a mirror. This one tests the quietest scare of the three — not something appearing, but someone missing. The watcher is the one who is not in the picture.
There is sound, but only just: a quiet hall, chairs on tile, and one crackle from a speaker that should be silent. Watch the monitor. Count the girls.
